José Francisco Jiménez, General Secretary of the Association of Employees of the University of Carabobo (AEUC), explained that the percentages of professionalization, seniority, family and other premiums were reduced, so that UC workers earn a lower salary than the that should as set by the labor agreement.

According to him, active workers do not earn more than 60 dollars per month at the current exchange rate in bolivars, when the salary should be higher than 150 dollars on average.

He recalled that the Onapre guidelines began to be applied last March, after the administration of Nicolás Maduro announced a salary increase. However, Jiménez assured that with the reduction in the percentage of premiums, university workers and public employees did not receive this salary increase.

He pointed out that in the last three months they have submitted documents requesting the repeal of the same before the Ministry of Labor, the Vice Presidency of the Republic, the Supreme Court of Justice, among other national and regional bodies, but the only response they have received is silence.

“We hope that the Minister of Labor understands that the National Constitution and the collective agreement have been violated. We hope that he will intervene so that the Onapre guidelines are repealed and the collective agreements are enforced,” he said.

For his part, Arévalo Medina, who served for 28 years at UC, expressed concern about the social security of workers who do not enjoy the benefits established in collective bargaining.

“This was wonderful, we had a funeral service that, when a relative died, covered everything. We had an HCM that lasted a month in a clinic and it covered everything, you didn’t pay anything. Now we don’t have a funeral service, we don’t have HCM, we really have lost everything,” Medina commented.
