Commissioner Prado highlighted that the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) issued precautionary measures to the nephrology service in 2018 and in 2019 extended them in favor of all patients.

Through a resolution at that time, the IACHR urged the corresponding authorities to adopt the necessary measures to guarantee the life, personal integrity, and health of children and adolescents, in the 13 identified services of the José Manuel de los Ríos Hospital in Caracas.

“In particular, the Commission (IACHR) considers that the authorities should provide medical treatment that takes into account, among other aspects, access to the required medications and procedures in accordance with the recommendations of the corresponding experts, as well as the satisfaction of their nutritional needs and other complementary measures, in light of their best interests,” Mr. Prado quoted from the report.
